ZT: What lessons you learnt during your development process for Starcraft II which you are applying to the development of Heroes of the Storm

DB: We've experienced this kind of value here at Blizzard for a long time and it's a tad of an idea that multiplayer games want to have between 15 and 25 minutes in length, possibly 18 to 20 minutes are the perfect time. It's the kind of time that the game really feels real and you're really at ease, and you're not really annoyed if you don't win because you've got time for another game. We had a desire to do it in Heroes, and we sort carried that over and are studying it which has been going really well for us.
Multiple maps is something that Starcraft II has done for several years, and also World of Warcraft and the original Starcraft. We liked the idea and believe it will add a lot of variation to the gameplay. The things we're bringing in from Starcraft and from World of Warcraft are a large portion of the ideas for keeping the most intense strategies within the game.

Starcraft is a game of strategy However, it's also a action game, and anyone with an APM can tell you. That mix of action and strategy is what makes Starcraft an enjoyable experience. For Heroes we're seeking that same mixture, with an abundance of strategy: how to fight along the map, how to utilize the resources. However, at the same time you'd like to have action with your heroes. In terms of the similarities in the core values in these games, we believe that Starcraft helped us understand plenty of lessons on how we could create to make something distinctive and original.
